Pumpkin Moong Dal Paysam

Rich and creamy dessert is healthy with goodness of pumpkin, moong dal coconut milk and jaggery. Moong dal is loaded with proteins. Pumpkin has beta carotene. Jaggery is healthy sweetener with iron. Pumpkin moog=ng dal kheer dessert is made during festive season but it is yummy and healthy dessert for all age groups. Pumpkin gives beautiful color, natural sweetener and texture to this dessert.

  • 1 cup moong dal (मूंग दाल) Soaked in water for 2 hours

  • 1 cup Pumpkin Chopped (कद्दू)

  • 1 cup Jaggery (गुड़)

  • 2 tbsp Water (पानी)

  • pinch salt (नमक)

  • 2 tbsp Chopped dry fruits (सुका मेवा)

  • 7-8 Raisins (किशमिश)

  • 2 Cups coconut milk (नारियल का दूध)

  • 1-4 tsp Cardamom powder (इलायची)


  • Soak Moong Dal in water for 2 hours.
    Boil water and add moong dal along with pinch of salt.
    When moong dal is almost cooked add chopped pumpkin.
    Once pumpkin is cooked.,
    Mash the pumpkin and dal with masher. (You can also blend moong dal and pumkin in blender for smooth consistency)
    Add dry fruits cardamom powder.
    Mix Jaggery into water and boil for 2 minutes until jaggery melts. We do not want any consistnecy.
    Add Jaggery liquid to the kheer using strainer to remove any impurities. '
    Add coconut milk,
    Bring to a boil
    Serve it cold or warm


Healthy way to cook lentils is to soak lentils and cook. Clean lentils to remove any impurities and then soak in water. Soaking will also reduce the cooking time. 
Once moong dal and pumpkin is cooked you can use the masher to mash it or pass through the blender. Passing through the blender will give smooth consistency.
You can add dry fruits of your choice.
